Recover your backups
Sometimes computers go wrong. You should always make backups of your data and keep them safe on a separate computer, a USB key, a network drive, on a CD-ROM or DVD. The Tools…Backup menu explains which folder you need to backup on your PC. It is normally this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\toybase.net\ToyBase\home
To recover your backup on your new PC, simply reinstall ToyBase, start then stop ToyBase, and copy your backup into the above folder on your new PC. (Starting and stopping creates the data folder for you to save you time)
Do not try and recover a backup with ToyBase running, as files will be locked and you will not be able to overwrite them.
If you only want to copy your database file (e.g. to undo a lot of deletions, or to recover from a corrupt database) then you need to copy the database file which ends in .abs
from your backup folder. ToyBase creates a daily backup for you in this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\toybase.net\ToyBase\home\backup
Copy this file over your database file, which is named in the Tools…Backup menu, and is normally called:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\toybase.net\ToyBase\home\data\ToyBase(v70).abs
Note that you will have to rename the backup to ToyBase(v70).abs
- just remove all the ‘backup of…’ from the filename.
